We have a dedicated team of investigators and ombudsmen, supported by an expert panel and advisory group.
The Financial Ombudsman Service has been sorting out complaints between financial businesses and their customers since we were set up by Parliament in 2001.
In 2019 our remit grew, and we now offer a dedicated dispute resolution service for small businesses.
Our team specialises in helping small businesses with complaints about financial businesses in areas such as:
- banking and credit
- financial advice and investments

Our small business team
We have a dedicated team of investigators who look into complaints from small businesses. They’re led by a group of experienced ombudsmen who have the power to make legally binding decisions.
Read more about our small business team.
The team is supported in their work by a panel of external experts from the small business sector. The panel provides specialist advice on the structures and practices of small businesses, including the financial products they use and the areas in which they operate. Members of the panel act in an advisory role – they don’t make decisions on behalf of our ombudsmen.
We also have an advisory group, with representatives from small businesses, trade bodies and financial services. The group provides us with useful insight and support, highlighting the concerns of small businesses and the challenges they face.
